Styling with LuLaRoe

Hi friends,

UPDATE - June 21-July 4 2016 you can enter to win a new leggings giveaway here!

To let you all know this post is semi-sponsored.  My friendly LuLaRoe rep Nicole Fitts has agreed to do a giveaway when I told her I wanted to write about LuLaRoe here, which I will tell you more about along the way.  However today's post is all about reviewing some of my favorite LuLaRoe items and inviting you all to join me at this weekends LuLaRoe party!  (The party's over, but you can still buy from Nicole's shop, and yes she ship worldwide!)

LuLaRoe Company Overview

First off a bit about LuLaRoe.  They're a great brand that still fairly new.  They started out making all their items besides leggings here in the USA.  But in the past year they've grown a lot through their model of locally based consultants who do pop-up sales in home or online.  They now have 7500 consultants and have started sending some of their designs to overseas factories.  But the good news is they're committed to paying all their workers fairly and all their factories are certified through SGS (More about SGS here!)

The biggest draws for me besides their ethical work is their amazing variety of prints that come is a nice range of sizes including plus size options of course!  Most of their women's clothing is available in sizes XXS-3XL!  They even have some kids sizes too.  Secondly all their prints are limited edition runs of 2500 pieces in each cut.  Some days that's maddening if you see a design you don't snag in time, but it also means you have a fairly unique piece.  And lastly, their quality is fantastic!

My Plus Size LuLaRoe Review

So far I've tried the Nicole and Amelia dresses, the Madison skirt (purchasing a Cassie shirt this weekend), the Sarah cardigan, a Perfect T, and their famous, buttery soft leggings.  I hope to attend an in person party in the future to get a better feel for how some items fit as well!

The Nicole I own (pictured below) is a XXL and I love how it fits, though it's most snug in the arms, and then fitted at the bust.  The Amelia in the same size was too small for me, but Amelia also has a zipper closure and pockets, so it's a slight bit more fitted or else I got lucky with the Nicole I chose.  I included this dress as a late addition to my fall capsule wardrobe and in my December (Dressember!) mini capsule wardrobe.

Here's a shot with an Amelia, two Nicole's and a second Amelia:

The Julia dress

Next up is the Madison a great little a-line skirt that unfortunately I've only seen go up to a size XL.  I tried the XL and the one I tried would fit a 14/16 as a low waist skirt or an 18 as a high waisted skirt.  I'll be trying the Cassie in a 3XL, though I might also be able to fit an XXL, I just liked a print in 3XL better.  I really like how versatile the Cassie is, I've seen it used as a top and as a scarf as well as the intended skirt!  Below are examples of each:

The Cassie I'm getting

Madison and a Lindsay kimono
Cassie

Next up is the Sarah cardigan, which brings back the duster sweater with lovely colors!  Mine is a XXL, but I could have also gone with a XL since it has lots of stretch and is fitted most in the arms.

I also had good luck with the Perfect T, believe it or not I went with a size L, and would wear that to a XXL in most of their tops such as the Irma, Classic T, and Randy.  I'm trying a XXL in a Classic T soon as well.

My Perfect T

The Classic T I'm trying

A Randy and a Maxi

Irma top and leggings (leggings as pants? yes!)
Ah and finally the leggings.  I love the two pairs I have and purchased a third in the Pantone color of the year Serenity!  The fit is a bit variable, mostly in terms of where the waist hits.  My 8-bit hearts fit low on the waist and the floral print can be worn high beautifully.

Outfit of the day 2/20/2016
I love these!
A perfect match for Serenity right?

Hopefully this has given you a taste for what LuLaRoe carries and how well they might fit you.  Feel free to contact me if you have more questions, I'm happy to help in any way I can.  And now that you've had a peek at the great selections please enter my giveaway below for a chance to win a pair of leggings in your choice of size and print.

Thanks so much for reading!

  8. What is your street size? I want to try the leggings but I am a 24, and they go up to 22. do you think they would still fit?

    1. I wear a 22 or a 24 depending on the cut or brand (Torrid or Lane Bryant for examples, I I usually try a 22, but end up in a 24 1/4 of the time, and always a 24 for shorts), I'm bigger in the hips and bottom, with a pear to hourglass type waist. I think if you're similarly shaped you should be ok, though the leggings may not fit as well for a 24 that's more apple shaped. Hope this helps!

  11. Oh, this is super helpful to me.

My sizing is different (I'm around a size 16-18 or so... usually an XL in shirts) but I'm busty as well as hippy. I can do the Madison in an L or XL (although the XL is better) and have TC leggings. Perfect Tee and Irma in XL (I could potentially do an Irma in L)

Just ordered a Nicole in an XL from a friend and it was squashingly tight in the bust :/

My favorites right now are the leggings and my Madison skirts.

    1. I'm fairly busty too, with hips at least a size bigger than I buy in tops, so I totally understand. I think the Nicole runs a little smaller in the bust than it should, it's definitely smaller than their tops from all I've observed so far! The good part is since the top part is more fitted you could probably try the XXL and still look amazing even if there's extra space at the hips.

I love the look of the Madison too, I hope they decide to make it in XXL & 3XL soon too so I can get one that fits me!

    2. I'm really surprised they don't have the Madison larger!

I also do have the big hips -- I'm a hourglass that tends towards a pear when I gain weight. So the hips are always a size bigger than I need in the waist, which lets me get away with the smaller sizes so long as there's room in the hips. I'm pretty sure I need an XXL in the Cassie though; my XL is a bit clingier than I would every consider wearing to work.

    3. Yes, I really don't understand why some styles stop at an XL, others at XXL, and some go up to 3XL!

On the good side of things the Nicole and Amelia are very forgiving in the hips, so once you know which fit at the bust you're golden. :-) I'm excited to get my Cassie later this week and see how it fits, I went with the 3XL and I think it'll work, but until I try it on I'll be nervous!

  15. I just tried on LuLaRoe today and was very discouraged. I wear a size 22 in the torrid boyfriend jeans. I really didn't feel comfortable in anything. I was seriously considering selling it, but I can't sell something that doesn't fit me. Uhhhhh :(

    1. What size LuLaRoe pieces did you try? I also wear size 22 from Torrid in jeans and about a size 20 on top, and sometimes a 24 on bottom from other stores. I usually go with the skinny jean at Torrid, so we might be a bit different shaped.

So far I've found that I can fit a 3XL in a Cassie with room to spare, a XXL in a Julia and Nicole (3XL would fit better if available), the Tall and Curvy leggings fit well, though some pairs sit at different parts of the waist, a XXL in the Classic Tee, a L or XL in the Perfect Tee, and a L or XL in the Sarah. They're also coming out with more extended sizes in the next few months. My consultant said she'll be getting Randys in 3XL, Madisons in XXL, and XXL Irmas this week, and mentioned Amelias in 3XL are in the works too. Hopefully that might give you a better idea, and maybe even change your mind. I understand it can be frustrating with how their sizing is variable though. My consultant has been great about it though since she's also close to my size. I bet that would make you a similarly helpful consultant too!

    4. Lydia,

What is your standard shirt size (if you don't mind)? I'm more pear than hourglass, but I'm also around a 22 for jeans, but I'm more of an 18/20 for tops.

      Thanks!

    5. Janell, it sounds like we're fairly similar in shape. I usually wear a 20/22 in tops and a 22/24 in jeans. Hope that helps!

  16. I just tried my first pair on today too and was disappointed. I am a size 18 pretty much across the board and was given a pair of TC leggings today that were not only tight and uncomfortable at the waist but they were short...about two inches short in length. They were also so snug in the legs that I couldn't make them into capris by pulling them up. I Have heard about the sizing being different depending on the country they were made in, Is this something you have hear of I am hoping the pair I ordered yesterday fit the way they are supposed too 😥

    1. I think for a pair to be too small for an 18 that would mean they definitely run smaller than average! I recently got a pair that is like that, and I can just barely pull them on, with even the legs being tight. However it's the only pair I have that fits that way, and I have 6 pairs now, so that's pretty good odds so far. I hope the newer pair works better for you. If you end up wanting the pass on the ones that were too small I've noticed a good audience for LuLaRoe on Poshmark (an app that allows you to sell your clothes easily online).

  17. I needed to come back here to thank you for you thorough review of LLR, and the personal pictures you posted! You helped me take the plunge...one pair of leggings turned into dresses, skirts, shirts and kimonos!! ...and now I'm on the list to become a consultant too! So, thank you. 25. I'm way late to this party - I got my first lularoe leggings just this week. They seemed to fit fine, but have huge holes in the butt. Not at the seam, just all over the butt. I'm an 18. I got the Irma in large, which fit great. I'm hesitant to try the other pair and rip them too! But I should fit in a pair of TC? I'm so confused.
